A Bold Bathroom Refresh on a Budget
When we moved into this house, the powder room was as basic as it gets: beige walls, builder-grade vanity, and not a single ounce of personality. It worked, but it didn’t feel like “us.” I had a serious case of powder room blues.
Because it’s the bathroom almost everyone who visits ends up using, I wanted it to make an impression. I’m not usually one to jump into bold color but something about this tiny little room gave me the courage to go for it. Worst-case scenario, it’s a small space to repaint. I was ready for a budget-friendly refresh

So during nap times (because of course), I pulled out a leftover gallon of deep blue paint and went for it. Instantly, the room transformed from forgettable to moody and dramatic. There’s something about painting a small space dark that feels cozy instead of overwhelming. And it ties in so well with the navy accents I already have in my living room.

I used a combination of pieces I found in store at Hobby Lobby, frames from Target & Amazon and Amazon prints (linked below!) to create my wall. I love that all the pieces are different shapes and sizes so hanging them didn’t have to be a chore of perfect measuring and spacing! (Don’t mind my feet! lol)
Once the walls were done, I had the most fun part left: the gallery wall. I laid everything out on the floor first—frames, prints, a couple of canvases I snagged on Amazon, and some Hobby Lobby finds—before committing to nails in the wall. Playing with the arrangement like a puzzle made it so much less intimidating, and once it was up, the whole vibe clicked.

A round gold mirror, a simple brass light fixture, and a few styled touches (plants, candles, and one of those cheeky little “Need TP? Text me.” signs) finished it off. Almost everyone who comes through the house notices it—and I love that the compliments roll in for a space that cost so little to update.

And now, when I manage to run in there for a quick personal moment alone—well, as “alone” as it gets with two toddlers yelling at the gate—I can still look around, take it in, and feel proud. With just a paintbrush, a little motivation, and some thought behind the design, I turned this tiny bathroom into a space that feels good every single time I step inside. And now, my powder room blues are behind me.
Like the look? I’ve curated a list of items I ordered from Amazon for this project (link below!) Some items were purchased at Hobby Lobby and can’t be shared, but where a similar item is available on Amazon, I’ve added it to the list below, as well!
